Pakistan heatwave alert

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a heatwave alert, warning of extremely hot and dry weather across Pakistan from April 22 to 27.

According to NDMA’s advisory, Balochistan and Sindh will face the most intense conditions, with temperatures expected to rise significantly above normal.

Elevated temperatures are also predicted in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir throughout the heatwave period.

However, light rain and partial cloud cover are expected in districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), offering temporary relief in cities such as Abbottabad, Chitral, and Peshawar.

Some areas in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir may also receive occasional rainfall, slightly easing the heat in those regions.

The NDMA has urged local administrations to remain on high alert and ensure measures are taken to safeguard public health and safety.

Citizens are advised to stay indoors during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and wear loose clothing to avoid heatstroke or dehydration.

Special care is recommended for vulnerable groups including children, elderly people, and individuals with existing health conditions, especially respiratory issues.
