In a shocking incident, a man was arrested for setting his wife on fire in Karachi’s Korangi area after she objected to his involvement with other women.
The incident took place in Mehran Town, where the victim, Rabia, sustained severe burns and is currently receiving treatment at the Civil Hospital.
According to police, her husband, Waqas, had a history of domestic abuse and returned home late the night of the attack, leading to an argument. He then poured petrol on Rabia and set her on fire.
Rabia’s family alleged that Waqas’s relatives attempted to cover up the crime by claiming she had attempted self-immolation. However, Rabia’s statement led to a case being registered against him.
Police arrested Waqas from the Azeempura area and have launched an investigation. Rabia’s family also accused Waqas’s relatives of pressuring them to drop the case.
She had previously filed a complaint against Waqas at the Shah Latif Town police station, citing a history of violence in their marriage.
