Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled plans to build Daanish University of Applied and Emerging Sciences in Islamabad using £190 million returned by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s account.
Chairing a steering committee meeting, the prime minister expressed gratitude to the Chief Justice of Pakistan for ensuring the smooth transfer of funds.
He stressed that the university would provide high-quality, research-based education to deserving and talented students.
PM Shehbaz directed the early completion of legal formalities for acquiring land in Sector H-16, Islamabad. He also instructed the swift finalization of the university’s charter and other legal matters, ensuring that it meets international technical and applied sciences standards.

The prime minister emphasized that the university’s architecture should be simple yet elegant, using red bricks to minimize costs. He also called for the hiring of highly qualified faculty and advanced research facilities to ensure excellence in education.
Daanish University will operate under the Daanish Trust, ensuring financial independence with minimal government intervention. It will be registered as a Section 42 company, and all necessary formalities are expected to be completed soon.
Additionally, PM Shehbaz announced the expansion of Daanish Schools to Shigar, Gilgit, Bagh, Neelum Valley (AJK), and underprivileged areas of Karachi. A committee will be formed for appointing the Vice-Chancellor and Board of Trustees.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Education Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, and other senior officials.
