The Sindh Transport Department has announced extended operating hours for the Peoples Bus Service in Karachi during the holy month of Ramadan 2025.
Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon stated that from the 15th of Ramadan, the bus service will operate from 7 AM to 1 AM, adding that the extended hours will apply to Routes R1, R2, R3, R4, R9, R10, and EV1.
Memon stressed that the decision aims to facilitate commuters during Ramadan, recognizing the heavy reliance of Karachi’s residents on public transport.
“We will ensure that people can travel safely after shopping and other activities during Ramadan nights,” he assured.
Effective from February 1, 2025, Sindh Government and Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) have announced a fare increase for the Peoples Bus Service.
According to the revised fare structure, passengers traveling up to 15 kilometers will be charged Rs. 80 per ride, while those traveling beyond 15 kilometers will pay Rs. 120 per ride.
The Peoples Bus Service, a much-needed public transit system in Karachi, operates red, white (electric), and pink (ladies-only) buses on eight routes, connecting key residential areas with industrial and business centers.
The air-conditioned red buses have a seating capacity of around 40 passengers, with additional space for 40 standing commuters and dedicated sections for women. The fare revision aims to ensure the sustainability of the service while continuing to provide reliable public transport in the city.
