Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced the establishment of emergency trauma centres along highways to provide immediate medical assistance to road accident victims.
Speaking at the 58th Convocation of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), he emphasized that timely medical aid could save lives, citing a recent fatal accident near Manjhand where three people died due to the lack of immediate medical care.
Shah directed the Secretary of Health and the Executive Director of Sehwan Hospital to ensure the setup of these trauma centres. He noted that while the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Trauma Centre at Civil Hospital Karachi is operational, similar facilities are urgently needed across Sindh.
The event, attended by notable medical leaders such as CPSP President Prof. Muhammad Shoaib Shafi and other international medical experts, also saw the CM highlight ongoing efforts to strengthen Sindh’s healthcare system.
He praised the success of institutions like the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), which leads the region in primary angiographies, and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), which offers world-class radiology services, including free CyberKnife treatment.
The CM also stressed the importance of collaboration with the private sector, citing the Sindh Institute of Endocrinology and Diabetes (SIEG) as an example.
He urged the graduating specialists to use their skills to alleviate suffering and uphold professional ethics and social responsibility. Shah concluded by reaffirming CPSP’s role in shaping the future of Pakistan’s healthcare system and its continued progress in producing skilled medical professionals.
