The newly constructed Gwadar International Airport is scheduled to be inaugurated on December 30, 2024, as reported by local media.
According to media reports, the decision to inaugurate the airport was made under the guidance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Moreover, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will operate the first commercial flight from the airport.
Reports suggested that final preparations are underway, with a recent five-hour meeting between PIA and the Airports Authority to finalize important operational details.
PIA will deploy staff and essential equipment, including check-in systems, ahead of the airport’s opening to ensure smooth operations from day one.
The airport, built with a $246 million investment from China, is expected to drive trade and tourism in the region.
In its first year of operation, no fees will be charged to PIA to help establish stable operations.
The airport features a large runway and an advanced terminal, making it capable of handling all types of large aircraft.
This new airport is anticipated to play a vital role in boosting trade, economic growth, and positioning Gwadar as a significant hub for commerce and connectivity.
