The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former Test cricketer Aqib Javed as the interim head coach of the national white-ball team, a role he will hold until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Aqib Javed, currently a senior member of the PCB’s selection committee, will also have additional responsibilities in the selection committee following the Champions Trophy next year.
Meanwhile, the PCB’s statement stressed that a permanent head coach will be appointed after the tournament.
Aqib Javed, who has extensive coaching experience in domestic cricket, particularly in the Pakistan Cricket League (PCL), was brought into the selection committee following Pakistan’s embarrassing loss to England in the first Test last month.
This appointment follows the sudden resignation of former white-ball coach Gary Kirsten before the team’s tour of Australia.
Jason Gillespie, the head coach of the red-ball team, briefly took over interim duties but made it clear he was not interested in a permanent role, leading to Aqib Javed’s appointment.
