The alarming rise in traffic accidents has claimed 598 lives across Karachi this year, as reported by the rescue authorities.
According to the ARY News, the rescue officials revealed that around 6,428 individuals have sustained injuries in traffic accidents in Karachi.
The rescue authorities stated that mostly motorcyclists are involved in these accidents, with many lives also lost due to speeding dumpers and water tankers.
Within just 24 hours, the city witnessed three separate incidents involving high-speed dumpers and trailers.
In one tragic case, a container from the trailer fell onto a motorcycle on Sher Shah Bridge, resulting in his death.
Additionally, two children were injured after being hit by a truck in Memon Goth, while a high-speed trailer struck multiple vehicles on Karachi’s Site Super Highway.
The rising toll calls for urgent attention to improve traffic regulations and safety measures to prevent further loss of life on roads in the city of lights.
During an interview with a private news channel, DIG police – Ahmed Nawaz Cheema – expressed concern over the recent accidents, while asserting that the accidents occurred in those areas in Karachi where heavy traffic is allowed for 24 hours including industrial zones, Karachi port, Northern bypass areas.
“No other areas including Shahrae Faisal, Defence, Clifton and nearby routes, report such accidents,” Cheema said.
