Wahab announces $1.6bn investment for water, sewage infrastructure, bridge opening in Korangi

Mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, unveiled plans for a significant investment of $1.6 billion to improve the city’s water and sewage infrastructure. During a press conference following a city council meeting, Mayor Wahab also announced the upcoming opening of a new bridge in the Korangi area.

Mayor Wahab expressed his disappointment over the disturbance that occurred during the council meeting, specifically noting the silence of Hafiz Naeem. He criticized Naeem for engaging in accusatory politics rather than working towards positive development.

Highlighting the importance of unity and collaboration, Mayor Wahab emphasized that despite political and ideological differences, there should be no discrimination when it comes to the progress of Karachi. He called on all parties to join hands and work together for the city’s development, suggesting a collective effort to dispose of waste furniture during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festival.

Mayor Wahab mentioned that it was the first time in the history of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) that a meeting of parliamentary leaders was held before the council meeting. He expressed his concern that the sanctity of the recitation in the council was violated during the meeting.

Regarding the issue of signboard proliferation, the mayor criticized the commercialization of Karachi’s streets, blaming Nimatullah Khan for the rampant construction of 20-storey buildings on residential plots. Despite protests, Mayor Wahab affirmed his commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities.

Mayor Wahab also addressed the rejection of a resolution from Sweden, expressing disappointment that it was not unanimously approved. He suggested that those opposing him may have tampered with the water lines, questioning their motives.

In conclusion, Mayor Murtaza Wahab emphasized the need for unity and collective efforts to overcome challenges and continue the development of Karachi. The planned investment in water and sewage infrastructure, along with the upcoming bridge opening, are significant steps towards improving the city’s infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
