US Visa applications by Pakistanis reach all-time high

The number of US visa applications from Pakistanis has reached an all-time high, according to the US Embassy. The mission is currently working diligently to handle this surge in visa applications.

The US Embassy is making efforts to reduce the waiting period for visa appointments and has adopted three strategies to facilitate applicants:

  1. Accelerated Processing: Thousands of applications for non-immigrant visas are being expedited. Previously, the appointment period for 10,000 applicants was scheduled for 2024, but it has now been shortened. For instance, applicants at the US Consulate in Karachi have had their appointments rescheduled to 2023. These applicants will soon be notified of the updated appointment period, and some may have their appointments scheduled as early as next week.

  2. Rescheduling Flexibility: Pakistanis planning to travel can cancel their existing visa appointments and reschedule. Additional rescheduling concessions can be obtained from the Karachi Consulate or Islamabad Embassy to make the process more convenient.

  3. Exemption from Interviews: Starting from September 25, Karachi is accepting applications from candidates who are exempt from interviews. Those who were previously issued visas from Karachi will be interviewed at the Karachi Consulate. Eligibility for exemption from interviews can be checked on the website.

The US Embassy is actively working to streamline the visa application process, recognizing the increased demand from Pakistani applicants.
