On Sunday, it was reported that three policemen were found involved in an abduction for ransom case, according to Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Malir Hassan Sardar. The SSP revealed this news while addressing the media after the recovery of two abductees in the Shah Latif Town police station area. He added that a sub-inspector (SI), two policemen, and private individuals were implicated in the abduction for ransom case.

“Four accused have been arrested, and raids are being conducted to apprehend their accomplices. Three cases of abduction for ransom were registered against the accused,” the SSP said.

According to the SSP, the arrested SI Shahid is a member of the South Zone police, while SI Mushtaq is affiliated with the reserve police. He added that the former Station House Officer (SHO) at the Shah Latif Town police station has been suspended, and an investigation has been launched.

The SSP further stated, “A special team will not perform any task in Malir District from today onwards. Every person will face strict action after committing a crime. If a police officer is roaming with criminals, then it will be a personal deed.”

It is not the first time that the Karachi police force has been implicated in abduction cases. In January, Sub-Inspector Saeed was arrested by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) for his involvement in a kidnapping for ransom case. Mohsin Amin was abducted from Garden on December 31, and the kidnappers demanded Rs25 lakh as ransom from the victim’s wife. The abductors threatened the family members with killing the victim if their demands went unheeded. After the ransom was paid and the victim returned, the case was transferred to AVCC. The department arrested Sub-Inspector Saeed and recovered the ransom money. The accused police officer was posted in the District Central, while the hostage Mohsin Amin was safely recovered from the custody of the officer. A case has also been registered against the arrested accused.
