PTI accuses Karachi police of crackdown, alleges unlawful detention of workers ahead of Nov 12 rally

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has raised serious allegations against the Karachi police, claiming a pre-rally crackdown as eight PTI workers were reportedly detained in various parts of Korangi. The party contends that the detained workers’ whereabouts are unknown, causing distress to their families, and expresses concern that they might face false charges.

A PTI-Karachi spokesperson issued a statement, denouncing the actions as unjust and politically motivated. The party asserts that these detentions are a form of political vendetta and an attempt to disrupt PTI’s preparations for the November 12 rally. The spokesperson emphasized that the detained workers were not implicated in any cases, heightening fears of potential false accusations.

The PTI accuses these actions as a manifestation of the fear instilled in forces that seek to sideline the PTI from the electoral race. The party’s decision to organize the November 12 rally comes amidst a broader crackdown on the PTI since the incidents of May 9.

Several senior PTI leaders have either gone underground or parted ways with the party due to the intensified crackdown. The PTI leaders held a meeting with the deputy commissioner-East to address administrative and legal formalities for the upcoming rally near the intersection at Millennium Mall of Stadium Road and Rashid Minhas Road.

Barrister Fayaz Samor, the Secretary of the PTI’s lawyer wing, expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for a powerful demonstration but highlighted uncertainties regarding the administration’s stance. Despite verbal assurances, the PTI awaits written confirmation, hoping that their political, democratic, and constitutional rights will be upheld without any impediments. The party anticipates a fair application of the law to ensure the smooth execution of their planned rally.
