In anticipation of the potential risks posed by the coastal storm surge in the Arabian Sea, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has taken proactive steps to ensure passenger safety. With the cyclone approaching, PIA has implemented comprehensive safety arrangements to mitigate any potential hazards.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the effects of the cyclone are expected to commence tomorrow at 3 am, impacting airports and air routes. Recognizing the dangers posed to Karachi and the coastal areas of Sindh, PIA has deployed dedicated safety teams to address the risks associated with flight operations.
The prevailing weather conditions, including strong winds and dust storms, have prompted PIA to consider alternate airports for flight diversions. In case of unfavorable weather in Karachi and Sukkur, Lahore or Multan may serve as alternative airports to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Due to the prevailing strong winds and gusts, today’s scheduled Karachi-Sukkur flight has been canceled. The decision regarding tomorrow’s flight will be made based on the evolving weather conditions and safety considerations.
To monitor the situation closely, PIA has activated its Emergency Response Center, which will provide real-time updates and response coordination. Additionally, the Ramp Safety Task Force has been mobilized to safeguard equipment and aircraft in operational areas.
As part of the safety measures, containers, trolleys, dollies, and engineering equipment located near runways and aprons are being relocated to secure positions, minimizing the risk of damage during the storm.
Furthermore, PIA urges all aircraft currently grounded to be parked in designated parking chocks on the ground. This measure ensures the safety and stability of the aircraft amidst the strong winds and dust storms.
Passengers are advised to contact PIA for any information or updates regarding their flights, particularly in light of the expected adverse weather conditions. Prompt communication with the airline will help ensure passenger safety and minimize inconvenience.
PIA remains committed to prioritizing passenger safety during this challenging weather situation, and the airline continues to closely monitor the cyclone’s progress and its potential impact on flight operations.
Abdullah Hafeez Khan, the spokesperson for PIA, emphasized the airline’s dedication to ensuring the well-being of its passengers and providing them with reliable and up-to-date information.
