In a landmark move on Thursday, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed decided to make Justice Ayesha Malik Pakistan’s first female Supreme Court Judge.
Justice Malik is a senior judge at the Lahore High Court and more than one source confirmed to ARY News that the decision has been finalised by the Chief Justice of Pakistan. However, the official decision to this effect is expected to be taken on September 9 in a meeting of the Judicial Commission.
Justice Malik is set to replace Supreme Court Judge Justice Mushir Alam who will retire on August 17.
