Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah stated that the efforts to revive Pakistan Steel Mill are advancing, with an online meeting scheduled next week between Pakistani experts and Russian representatives.
The meeting will be followed by an on-site visit from a Russian delegation to the Steel Mill, marking significant progress in restoring the mill’s operations.
This development was discussed in a recent meeting between Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev at the Chief Minister’s House.
CM Shah highlighted the historical significance of Pakistan Steel Mill, which was originally established in Karachi in 1974 with Russian assistance during Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s tenure.
“The Steel Mill was a gift from PM Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and has provided employment to people from across Pakistan,” CM Shah noted.
Russian Ambassador Khorev indicated that the upcoming online meeting would cover technical aspects of the revival project, with representation from the Sindh Industries Department.
A subsequent visit by a Russian delegation to the mill will allow for on-ground assessment, with the goal of installing a modern plant to replace outdated infrastructure, potentially restoring employment for former workers.
Additionally, the two discussed investment opportunities in Sindh, with the Russian ambassador expressing interest in Karachi’s public transportation sector, specifically in launching electric buses.
CM Shah directed his Secretary, Raheem Shaikh, to coordinate with the Transport Department to facilitate this collaboration.
Ambassador Khorev also expressed interest in establishing Russian cultural centers across Sindh to promote art, music, and language, strengthening cultural ties between Russia and Pakistan.
CM Shah assured him that the Culture Department would work with the Russian Consulate to advance this initiative.
