The Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) of the United States Mission in Pakistan, Andrew Schofer, has reaffirmed U.S. commitments to bolster bilateral relations and support the people of Pakistan during his visit to Karachi from February 13 to 16.
DCM Schofer emphasized the United States’ dedication to promoting democracy, economic growth, and women’s empowerment in Pakistan. His visit aimed to strengthen ties with diverse stakeholders and underscore the importance of continued engagement between the two nations.
“We are committed to deepening our partnership with Pakistan and working together on our shared priorities that promote democracy, inclusive economic growth, and stability in the region. This visit to Karachi reflects our commitment to engaging with diverse stakeholders and reinforcing our bilateral ties,” said DCM Schofer.
During his visit, DCM Schofer highlighted the United States’ support for the people of Sindh in times of climate disasters and post-flood recovery efforts. The U.S. has extended over $215 million in aid to Sindh since 2022, focusing on education, clean water, malnutrition, and healthcare to aid in recovery and build disaster resilience.
Furthermore, DCM Schofer visited USAID-supported Terry Tex International, emphasizing the U.S. commitment to promoting women’s entrepreneurship and supporting local businesses in expanding their horizons.
Engagement with dynamic youth leaders at the Lincoln Corner at the Pakistan American Cultural Center provided a platform for meaningful discussions, showcasing the importance of youth empowerment in shaping the future of Pakistan.
DCM Schofer also met with private sector and civil society leaders across various sectors, including finance, pharmaceuticals, and textiles, to reinforce the significance of inclusive private sector-led growth, trade, and investment between Pakistan and the United States.
In addition, DCM Schofer underscored the United States’ commitment to addressing challenges faced by Afghan refugees and vulnerable religious minorities in Pakistan. Meetings with UNHCR officials and interactions with the Parsi community in Karachi highlighted efforts towards humanitarian aid and support, fostering greater harmony and appreciation among Karachi’s diverse inhabitants.
DCM Schofer’s visit signifies the enduring partnership between the United States and Pakistan, furthering mutual interests and strengthening bonds of friendship and cooperation.
