Telecom tribunal to deal with complaints: IT Ministry

Syed Amin Ul Haq, Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications, has taken note of complaints about subpar mobile and internet service in the country. He also announced the establishment of a telecom tribunal to handle telecom sector complaints.

Speaking in Islamabad, Federal Minister of Information Technology Syed Aminul Haq stated that there are many areas in the country where the quality of office service is poor, and that it is the responsibility of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to monitor service quality (QoS). The regulator is aware of QoS issues and has previously fined companies.

Syed Amin Ul Haq stated that the IT ministry will also meet with telecom companies to discuss quality of service issues and listen to their complaints.

He also stated that work has begun to establish a separate tribunal for telecom sector complaints, that the matter of establishing a telecom sector tribunal is nearing completion, and that efforts will be made to bring cases to the tribunal rather than the High Court. He stated that the social media roles would be finalised in the coming weeks.
