In a meeting held on Sunday between Transport Minister Syed Awais Shah and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, it was decided to draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) under which the transporters could resume their services. The meeting was held to discuss the grievances of the transporters who have been suffering ever since the imposition of lock down to contain the spread of the virus.
The CM stated that resolution of transporters’ issues was amongst the government’s top priorities.
Earlier, Karachi Transport Ittehad President Irshad Bukhari had demanded of the Sindh Government to allow them to resume operations or provide them with a relief package to cover their economic losses. He had urged the provincial minister to provide them with SOPs so they may safely carry out business activities. He had given the Sindh Government three days to respond to their demands after which transporters would resume operations.
All intra-city and inter-city transport has been banned since March 23rd across the province.
With increasing numbers of coronavirus cases across the province, the need for a further extension of the lockdown is pressing on.
As of yet, there are 5291 cases of Coronavirus in Sindh with 11 death recorded in the last 24 hours.
