Sindh government directs schools to remain open amid ongoing protests

The Sindh government announced on Wednesday that all schools in the province will remain open despite the ongoing protests across the nation. In a notification issued by the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department, it was stated that all principals and administrators of privately managed institutions in Sindh are directed to keep their schools open from May 11, 2023, onwards. The notification also emphasized that strict action will be taken against any institutions found closed voluntarily, and their registration will be immediately canceled under the relevant laws.

Meanwhile, the Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, confirmed that the matriculation exams will proceed as scheduled, ensuring that students’ academic progress remains unaffected.

In Punjab, authorities have made the decision to temporarily shut down educational institutions across the province. The Punjab School Education Department issued a notification stating that all private and public schools will remain closed for the next two days, May 11 and May 12, following the closure on May 10. Additionally, the Punjab Higher Education Department announced the closure of all educational institutes, excluding medical colleges and universities, on May 11 and 12. Furthermore, the Secondary School First Annual exam, originally scheduled for May 11 and 12, has been postponed.

The ongoing protests, which entered their second day, were sparked by the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan. Unfortunately, these protests have resulted in the loss of lives and injuries to several individuals.
