According to a newly proposed bill in Sindh Assembly on Saturday, gutka consumption may lead to imprisonment of one to six years.
Latest bill pushed forward in the assembly proposes a fine of Rs 500,000 on violators of the ban.
It suggests a complete ban on the sale and consumption of gutka in public places. This includes colleges, hospitals, offices and other places.
Sindh Minister for Local Government, Public Health Engineering and Rural Development have stated that even though a ban on the substance already exists it has not been implemented thoroughly.
Earlier this year, Sindh High Court had entertained petitions seeking action against manufacture and sale of harmful substances such as gutka. The court had directed police departments to take strict action against the menace of gutka.
