Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has played down an on-field exchange during the recent match, highlighting that emotions were high and Pakistan needed wickets at that moment.
Talking about the heated moment with an opposing player, Afridi said, “Honestly, he didn’t say anything at first. I just went up to him because we needed wickets at that point. When he took a single, we exchanged a few words, but it stayed on the field. It was all about representing our country, and that issue has been resolved now.”
Afridi also acknowledged Pakistan’s struggles in the death overs, admitting the team needs to improve in closing out matches. “We need to have better control in the death overs because if matches go like this in the end, it’s not a good sign. We will improve on that,” he said.
With the Champions Trophy approaching, Afridi reassured fans that the team is learning from its mistakes. “These matches are all about preparing for the Champions Trophy. The mistakes we’ve made here will only help us improve for the upcoming tournament. We’ll be ready, Inshallah.”
The pacer also sent a message to the Pakistani media, urging them to support the team rather than spread negativity. “The media plays an incredibly important role in Pakistan cricket. Social media messages are seen everywhere, including by our youth and kids. We request the media to send positive messages. Whether it’s Babar Azam, Rizwan, or myself, it’s about all Pakistan players coming together. Negativity holds the country back, but positivity can help us win matches.”
With Champions Trophy 2025 on the horizon, Pakistan will look to address its weaknesses and build momentum before the tournament.
