Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has declared a rain emergency in response to the Meteorological Department’s forecast of rain in the city. Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad has canceled all leave for staff on duty until the anticipated rains subside, as reported by Dawn News.
Deputy Mayor Murad stated that the Water Corporation has been instructed to deploy machinery at various underpasses and highways to prevent flooding. He also directed the staff of the Solid Waste Management Board and Karachi Municipality to take necessary preventive measures.
Murad emphasized that town chairmen from the People’s Party will actively serve the community during the rains. He assured the public that the situation is currently under control, with no standing rainwater reported in any part of the city.
Today, rain began in Bahria Town and surrounding areas of Shahr Quaid, with light rain and drizzle observed in Gadap Town, Super Highway, and Malir. Additionally, strong winds and heavy rain occurred in various parts of Karachi.
The Meteorological Department had earlier predicted rain with thunder in Karachi for Thursday and Friday. The KMC’s proactive measures aim to mitigate the impact of the forecasted downpour and ensure the city’s infrastructure remains functional during the adverse weather.
