The manager of a private bank in Gulistan-e-Jauhar along with other employees was arrested on Friday for replacing jewellery worth millions with fake replicas in lockers at the bank.
According to the police, the employees replaced Rs 550 million worth of jewellery placed in the bank’s custody against loans obtained by 28 different clients. The forgery was detected during an audit of the bank.
After further investigation, it was learned that imitation jewellery was placed in at least 150 lockers out of 233. More lockers are jet to be checked.
A case was registered in Shahra-e-Faisal police station on a written complaint lodged by the general manager of the bank’s head office and police arrested five persons including a female employee of the bank.
Police said that physical remand of the arrested suspects has also been obtained while other employees will also be interrogated.
