PM assures uninterrupted power supply for Karachi through government-K-Electric cooperation

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar affirmed on Monday that a seamless power supply to Karachi would be guaranteed through the collaborative efforts of the government and K-Electric. The statement came during a meeting with a delegation from K-Electric, led by Monis Abdullah Alvi, the Chief Executive Officer of Karachi Electric (KE), who expressed gratitude for the resolution of longstanding issues.

The delegation conveyed appreciation to the Prime Minister for the approved Rs390 billion investment plan for K-Electric, as well as the endorsement of rates (tariff) for 640MW of renewable energy projects and the provision of an additional 1,000MW of electricity. These measures have sent positive signals to investors, as per the delegation.

In response, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Energy to collaboratively seek a permanent solution to other challenges faced by K-Electric. He emphasized that the purchasing power of electricity consumers and their welfare should remain at the forefront of the policy.

The briefing during the meeting covered various issues concerning K-Electric. The delegation included Chief Executive Officer Monis Abdullah Alvi, Chief Finance Officer Amir Ghazini, and Regulatory Officer Imran Qureshi.

Attending the meeting were Federal Energy Minister Muhammad Ali, Chairman Nepra Waseem Mukhtar, Chief Executive Officer of the Central Power Purchasing Agency Rehan Akhtar, along with other senior officers. The discussions focused on fostering a cooperative approach between the government and K-Electric to address challenges, ensuring a reliable and uninterrupted power supply for Karachi.
