On the anvil: Karachi, ICT commute expect electric buses by December

Fawad Chaudhry, said Islamabad Capital Territory will be the first city to have electric transport with 38 electric buses by December this year followed with his similar remarks for Karachi commute earlier in October.

The minister said under the new MoU, the German company will invest in three phases; installations of Electric Vehicle manufacturing plants, bus operations and technology transfer to Pakistan.

He hoped that the project will attract 3 to 5 billion US dollars of foreign investment.

Chaudhry stressed introduction of EV technology will expedite work on the government’s policy to check environmental pollution.

Fawad Chaudhry had said the ruling government was working over a plan to convert public transport into EV in metropolitan cities of Pakistan.

The minister said after introducing an EV charging station in Islamabad, the govt had decided to install EV charging stations on motorways across the country as well.

Chaudhry, after the signing ceremony of a strategic alliance agreement between govt and the German company, said that the project of installing EV charging stations on motorways would be completed in the next six months.

Talking on commuter grievances for the port city earlier the off going month, federal science minister said there is no doubt Karachi is facing issues of public transport and that present government would fix it problem soon after reaching out to the provincial government.

He also said after the signing ceremony of a strategic alliance agreement between govt and German company, that the project of installing EV charging stations on motorways would be completed in the next six months.
