Mask a compulsion for Karachi’s citizens: govt

The Sindh Health Department has announced that wearing a face mask is compulsory for all citizens in Karachi after the Omicron variant of Covid-19 has started to grip the city rapidly.

A meeting chaired by provincial health minister Azra Pechuho also decided to seal the shopping malls and schools if unvaccinated persons are found at the premises.

The meeting also decided to launch a special door-to-door corona vaccination campaign for 14 days.

The session also decided on the immediate vaccination of school children.

The meeting was briefed that only 42 per cent population of Karachi has been vaccinated so far and that out of all the citizens ever admitted to hospitals for coronavirus, nearly 90% were unvaccinated.

An upsurge of coronavirus infections is being witnessed in Karachi as the ratio of positive cases has reached 18 per cent.
