University of Karachi (KU) has revised its earlier decision to hold in person semester exams next week, following student protests held on Tuesday.
Taking note of the matter, Vice-Chancellor Professor DrKhalid Iraqi hs now introduced a hybrid model which will compose of physical examinations, assignments and evaluation marks of online classes. In this new model, exams will be based on classes conducted pre-online semester and assignment marks of online classes will be then added to this.
On Tuesday, students of KU protested against the administrations announcement to conduct in person exams and complained about the poor quality of online education. It is important to note that in-person classes at KU were held from January 1 to February 28 before the semester switched to the online medium. Returning to campus after six months, students gathered outside the varsity’s administration and expressed their grievanceswith the online learning. Students complained that teachers had not taught anything during the online semester but had merely asked students to submit assignments.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Dean’s Committee chaired by Vice-Chancellor Dr Khalid Iraqi.
