A Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police officer has been arrested by the Super Highway police for his involvement in supplying illegal arms, as reported by ARY News on Tuesday.
The arrest yielded significant seizures, including two pistols, narcotics, and an official KP police service card, according to SSP East Irfan Bahadur, who briefed the media on the operation.
SSP East shared that the accused, identified as Mohammad Zohaib, had been operating a social media page where he facilitated the distribution of illegal firearms throughout the country for the past year.
Zohaib’s illegal arms supply network spanned multiple regions, including Ghotki, Shahdadpur, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sahiwal, Lahore, and Balochistan, according to the police officer.
The weapons he provided included Kalashnikovs, repeaters, and 30-bore guns. An accomplice, known as Niaz, paid him Rs. 15,000 for each consignment of arms supplied.
A notable aspect of Zohaib’s operation was his use of his KP police card to bypass security checkpoints during his cross-country deliveries. He would transport the arms in his car from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the specified supply destinations.
Moreover, he utilized mobile payment services like ‘easy paisa’ for collecting payments related to the illegal arms trade.
The arrest underscores the importance of cracking down on illegal arms trafficking, as it poses a significant threat to public safety and national security.
