Karachi’s gas crisis intensified in Ramazan

The gas crisis in Karachi has worsened during the holy month of Ramadan, adding to the already existing menace of electricity load shedding. Several areas of Karachi are currently facing low gas pressure or complete deprivation of gas supply. The gas crisis has been intensified after a technical fault developed at the Sawan gas field, resulting in a drop of gas supply of 44 mmcfd.

Areas that have been affected by the gas shortage include North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Gulistan-e-Johar, Orangi Town, Korangi, Landhi, Baldia Town, Qaimkhani Colony, Liaquatabad, Hijrat Colony, Garden, DHA, Saddar, Kathore, Scheme 33 and other parts of the city. According to sources, the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is facing a shortage of over 300 mmcfd of gas supply.

The situation has caused unrest among the residents, who are struggling to prepare meals for Sehri and Iftar due to the gas load shedding. The residents of Baloch Para Jahangir Road have staged a protest at the arterial roads, which disrupted the traffic from Guru Mandir to Teen Hatti. The protestors demanded the immediate restoration of gas supply in the area.
