Citizens and police personnel in Karachi should be informed that Sindh Police has ordered 800 body-worn cameras for traffic challan officials and mobile officers of patrolling stations, for which police officer training has already been completed. Control rooms, work stations, and docking stations have been constructed.
According to Deputy Inspector General Police Information Technology Sindh Pervaiz Ahmad Chandio, 456 cameras were ordered in the first phase and are being sent to Karachi Traffic Police challan officials.
He also stated that 336 cameras are being handed over to the PO and SSPs of Karachi’s eight districts for operation, which would be delivered at the police station level, and that Sindh Police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has 8 cameras.
A police officer who is registered or assigned with one of the cameras with eye and facial recognition can recover it from the docking station using artificial intelligence, according to the protocol.
During his 8 hours of duty, each officer will wear a bodyworn camera connected to his uniform. Each camera has a battery life of 8 to 10 hours and a recording capacity of more than 10 hours.
No officer will be able to switch off the camera or remove the films and audios captured in the camera while on duty. When the officer’s shift is done, he will return the camera to the docking station along with his identification. As soon as the camera is connected to the docking station, all of the videos taken by the officer during his duty will be automatically downloaded to the docking station, the camera’s memory will be freed for the next officer’s assignment, and the space will be available to record videos for the next duration. The camera battery will also charge itself during the half hour of this work.
Because the docking station is linked to the command and control center’s control room, all memory from the docking station is automatically transmitted to the control room.
