Gulberg Town has launched the ‘Taleem Card’ to offer financial assistance to around 3000 underprivileged students in Karachi.

The launch ceremony was held at Gulberg Gymkhana in Federal B Area, where Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman attended as the chief guest and praised the initiative introduced by Gulberg Town’s elected leadership.

According to officials, around 3,000 students in Gulberg Town have received Taleem Cards worth Rs10,000 each. The cards can be used to purchase textbooks, school uniforms, shoes, stationery, and other educational materials from selected stores.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said the initiative was launched at a time when citizens were already facing financial pressure due to rising fuel prices and inflation.

He added that supporting students at the beginning of the academic year would help many families manage educational costs.

He also announced that Jamaat-e-Islami’s elected representatives in the remaining eight towns of Karachi would soon introduce similar Taleem Card programmes for students in their respective areas.

Gulberg Town Chairman Nusratullah said local governments are primarily responsible for municipal services, but the administration decided to expand public support according to community needs.

He stated that the number of Taleem Cards would be increased further next year to benefit more students. He also said the programme is fully cashless and paperless, while all transactions are monitored through a mobile application to ensure transparency and accountability.

According to Gulberg Town officials, the initiative covers students from 22 blocks of Federal B Area and is funded through contributions collected from industrial units operating within the town.

Nusratullah further said that eight government school buildings in Gulberg Town had already been restored, while four schools were upgraded into model government schools to improve educational facilities in the area.

The ceremony was attended by teachers, doctors, business representatives, and community members, including representatives from the Federal B Area Trade and Industry Association and Pakistan International Business Forum.
