Karachi braces for prolonged cold spell: MeT

Karachi, known for its temperate climate, finds itself gripped by an unusual bout of cold weather, with conditions expected to persist for the next 24 hours, reports the Department of Meteorology.

Today, the city recorded a temperature of 11.1 degrees Celsius, significantly below the average March temperature of 19.4 degrees Celsius. This chilly trend is anticipated to continue across Sindh, with temperatures dipping approximately 10 degrees lower than the typical March readings in the upcoming days.

In Karachi, the mercury is forecasted to hover between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius for the minimum temperature, while the maximum temperature is projected to range from 22 to 24 degrees Celsius. However, temperatures are anticipated to climb to around 30 degrees Celsius starting Friday.

Presently, gentle northwest winds, blowing at 3 kilometers per hour, accompany a humidity ratio of 67% in Karachi, as per the Meteorological Department’s data.

Looking forward, a series of western winds is slated to influence Balochistan on March 5, though no rainfall is anticipated in Sindh due to this system. Furthermore, another western wind system is anticipated to impact the country on March 11; however, any predictions regarding rainfall in Karachi remain speculative at this juncture.

The Meteorological Department suggests that the severe cold wave enveloping Sindh is anticipated to gradually diminish starting from March 6, offering a respite from the uncharacteristic chilliness that has settled over the region.
