The Supreme Court (SC) has directed the concerned authorities to hand over the Askari Amusement Park to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) within two weeks.
A two-member SC bench comprising Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Qazi Mohammad Amin issued the ruling and directed the KMC administrator to take control of the Askari Park and open it to the public, without any entry fee.
The chief justice directed the KMC to return the existing rides to the current management and install new ones. The court also directed that all the shops on the park’s land be razed.
The judges wondered how 38 shops and a marriage hall were constructed on the park’s land ad ordered that the KMC’s 99-year agreement with the army be considered null and void.
