Federal minister announces ambitious plans to tackle education crisis in Pakistan

Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, has taken decisive action to confront Pakistan’s education crisis. In a high-level meeting on Wednesday, Minister Siddiqui expressed grave concern over the significant number of out-of-school children and unveiled ambitious plans to tackle this pressing issue head-on.

During the meeting, Minister Siddiqui announced his intention to advise the Prime Minister and the Federal Cabinet to declare a national education emergency. This bold move underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child has access to quality education, aiming to bring back out-of-school children into the education system and prevent further disparities in educational opportunities.

In a proactive step towards equipping the future workforce with essential skills, Minister Siddiqui directed the Ministry to expedite the formulation of a strategy to train one million technology and IT-skilled workers. This initiative, funded by the National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), demonstrates the government’s dedication to preparing the workforce for the demands of a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Furthermore, Minister Siddiqui unveiled plans for a comprehensive School Meals Program to be implemented in all Islamabad Government Primary Schools. This initiative prioritizes proper nutrition for students and promotes their overall health and hygiene, showcasing the government’s commitment to holistic child development.

Recognizing the crucial role of girls’ education in national development, Minister Siddiqui emphasized the need to narrow the gender literacy gap. He pledged unwavering support for initiatives aimed at improving access to education for girls, acknowledging it as a fundamental step towards achieving broader development goals.

To foster collaboration and innovative solutions, Minister Siddiqui announced the organization of a National Conference in collaboration with SIFC. This conference will focus on addressing the issue of out-of-school children and combating learning poverty through the transformative power of technology.
