Fawad Alam announces retirement from international cricket, set to join Chicago Kingsmen

In a significant development, Pakistani cricketer Fawad Alam has officially called time on his international cricket career, spanning an impressive 15 years. The news comes on the heels of Fawad Alam’s decision to embrace a new cricketing journey, as he gears up to represent the Chicago Kingsmen in the upcoming Minor League Cricket T20. The emergence of this exclusive revelation was first reported by Cricbuzz.

Despite making his foray into white-ball cricket for Pakistan in 2007, Fawad Alam’s presence in the national squad has been intermittent at best. Notably, his Test debut in 2009 was marked by a remarkable century, only to face a swift omission from the team shortly afterward. An intriguing eleven-year hiatus followed before he was reinstated, despite consistently amassing runs with an enviable average of 55 in domestic cricket. Fawad Alam’s career experienced a resurgence in 2020, during which he proved his mettle with a gritty century against New Zealand, followed by standout performances against South Africa, West Indies, and Zimbabwe.

However, Alam’s unorthodox batting technique faced its sternest test against Australia in early 2022. Struggling to find his footing, he managed a mere 33 runs across four innings, leading to his eventual exclusion from the team following a challenging Test against Sri Lanka in July 2022. Fawad Alam’s international journey encompassed 19 Test matches, 38 ODIs, and 24 T20Is for Pakistan, a journey highlighted by five Test centuries and a solitary ODI century achieved during the 2014 Asia Cup.

Fawad Alam’s distinctive batting style and intermittent appearances spurred impassioned debates within Pakistan’s cricketing circles over the past decade. His absence from the Test arena combined with his unconventional approach fueled discussions among former players and media pundits. As he embarks on a new chapter, Fawad Alam leaves behind an impressive domestic cricket legacy, amassing over 14,000 runs in 201 first-class matches over a span of 19 years.

His decision to join the Chicago Kingsmen in the Minor League Cricket T20 heralds a fresh endeavor in his cricketing career. This transition signifies not only a personal milestone for Fawad Alam but also underlines the allure and opportunities presented by cricket on a global stage. The story of Fawad Alam’s retirement and his future in American cricket stands as a testament to the ever-evolving landscape of the sport.
