Commissioner Karachi discusses post-Eid polio campaign in light of new cases in KP

15 months after the last polio cases were reported, a new one has been detected  in North Waziristan. In light of this development, an important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi about conducting a polio campaign and to assess the possibility of Karachi being affected by the new case found in Waziristan.

The meeting was briefed that the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, North and South Waziristan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Peshawar, Khyber and Balochistan’s Zhob, Sherani are included in the high risk areas while Quetta and Karachi are included in the medium risk slab.

 

The briefing further said that after Eid, a large number of people return to Karachi from high risk districts.

Commissioner Karachi said that an efficient strategy should be adopted to keep the city safe from polio as Karachi has been polio free for two years.

He said that the polio free status of Karachi should be maintained under all circumstances, 8 union councils of Malir district and Gharbi adjacent to the super highway are at high risk and should be focused on and families who have been refusing vaccination against polio should be reaproached.
