CM Sindh approves compensation for torrential monsoon rain victims

Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah has approved compensation for victims and their properties who incurred heavy losses following hammering late-monsoon downpour.

”The rain water submerged 1752 villages in the province during the rainfall this year,” Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah was briefed in the session huddled to assess losses in rainfall in which more than 2.2 million people were affected.

The crops comprising 1.49 million acres of land while 2.9 million houses were damaged in the disastrous monsoon spells that lasted up until late August.

Moreover, 1.29 million people were affected due to collapse of their houses, briefing apprised the CM.

Overall 149 people were killed and 103 sustained injuries in the rainfall, the chief minister was told. Having been briefed, the CM approved compensation of all the listed losses under the social protection policy, which now awaits endorsement by the Sindh cabinet in a meeting.

Chief Minister has decided to summon a cabinet session shortly to hammer out the compensations. He said poor and affected people will not be left forlorn.

Cross verification of the data compiled has also been instructed in order to minimize chances of frauds. The compensation amount will be transferred after perusal of individual’s CNICs, the spokesperson added.
