A lady constable of the Balochistan police sustained injuries in an alleged acid attack by her husband in Karachi’s Baldia Town on Wednesday, according to officials.
South Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Syed Asad Raza informed Dawn.com that the suspect reportedly threw acid on his wife near the Khurshid Pura graveyard within the jurisdiction of Saeedabad police station before fleeing the scene.
The victim was subsequently rushed to the Burns Centre at Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medical treatment.
Police surgeon Summaiya Syed reported that the victim sustained burns on her face, chest, and other areas, amounting to approximately 33 per cent of her body. Due to her condition, she was deemed unfit to provide a statement.
DIG Raza further disclosed that the injured woman was a lady constable serving in the Balochistan police force, noting that both the victim and the suspect hailed from the same province.
Authorities, including the Saeedabad deputy superintendent of police and other law enforcement officials, visited the crime scene and recorded statements from witnesses, including a security guard who reportedly witnessed the attack.
Based on eyewitness accounts, the suspect allegedly threw acid on the victim before fleeing the scene. Police have initiated efforts to apprehend the suspect, with reports suggesting that he may have fled to Quetta. Efforts are underway to locate and arrest him.
