The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index shedding 720.83 points, or 0.41%, amid a broadly negative trading session.

The index settled at 176,975.67, compared with the previous close of 177,696.50. During the session, the benchmark touched an intraday high of 178,138.68 and a low of 176,944.91, indicating continued volatility around the 177,000 level.

Market participation remained strong, with 493.82 million shares changing hands in KSE-100 constituents. Across the exchange, total volume reached 937.27 million shares, while traded value stood at Rs39.13 billion across 448,183 trades.
Market breadth remained firmly negative. Of the 569 companies traded, 302 declined, compared with 169 gainers, while 98 stocks closed unchanged.
Cnergyico PK Limited (CNERGY) emerged as the most actively traded stock, with 293.18 million shares changing hands. The stock gained Rs1.05 to close at Rs15.46, after trading between Rs14.20 and Rs15.58.
Waves Corporation (WAVESAPPR) was the second most traded issue, recording 71.23 million shares. The stock closed at Rs0.76, up Rs0.75, after reaching an intraday high of Rs1.

Bank of Punjab (BOP) followed with 52.29 million shares, closing marginally higher at Rs34.99.
Among notable gainers, Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) advanced Rs9.49 to Rs104.42, with 46.61 million shares traded. K-Electric (KEL) also closed higher, gaining Rs0.09 to Rs7.24 on 31.73 million shares.
On the losing side, TPL Insurance (TISL) fell Rs0.13 to Rs3.24, while Unity Foods (UNITY) declined Rs0.73 to Rs9.98. Unity Foods traded 25.55 million shares during the session.

Last week, PSX closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index gaining 373.73 points, or 0.21%, to settle at 177,696.50.
The index traded between an intraday high of 178,042.78 and a low of 177,165.27, compared with the previous close of 177,322.77.
Trading activity remained robust, with the exchange recording 658.33 million shares in volume and a traded value of approximately Rs31.45 billion across 372,677 trades.
Market breadth remained tilted toward decliners, with 202 stocks advancing, 257 declining and 109 remaining unchanged, out of a total of 568 securities.
