The judicial commission constituted to investigate the death of young entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali has formally commenced proceedings and issued notices to relevant parties.

The commission has summoned Mir Raza Ali’s family and their counsel, lawyer Jibran Nasir, on August 28 (Friday). A notice has also been issued to the Sindh government’s focal person in connection with the proceedings.
According to the commission’s rules, the inquiry is required to be completed within 30 days.
The commission is headed by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial and will examine the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death, including the investigation conducted by authorities and other aspects of the case.

The judicial inquiry comes amid questions surrounding the circumstances in which the young entrepreneur was killed and the subsequent handling of the investigation.
Mir Raza Ali went missing on July 28 after leaving his residence in PECHS Block 2, Karachi.
His bullet-riddled body was recovered the following day from bushes opposite the University of Karachi, near Shahi Qila Ground in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
The case has since been investigated through medical, forensic and digital evidence, while authorities have also examined CCTV footage and other material related to the incident.

The Sindh Home Department had earlier notified the terms of reference (ToRs) for the judicial commission.
Under the ToRs, the commission will determine whether the investigation was conducted impartially and in accordance with the law and whether additional investigation or evidence is required.
It will also examine allegations of negligence or dereliction of duty by police officials, the medico-legal officer (MLO) and any other government official involved in the case.

The commission will further determine responsibility if evidence was concealed, altered or tampered with during the investigation.
Where necessary, the commission may recommend additional investigation, forensic examination or legal and departmental action against those found responsible.
The proceedings are expected to shed further light on the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death and the handling of the investigation.
