K-Electric (KE) has warned that it may introduce load management during evening and night-time peak hours if required, citing a nationwide shortage of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) caused by international supply disruptions and delayed cargoes.

In a statement shared by spokesperson Imran Rana on social media, the power utility said the supply constraints were affecting electricity generation across Pakistan, including areas served by K-Electric.

The company stressed that load management would be considered only as an extreme, last-resort measure if the situation necessitated it.

Daytime Electricity Supply Expected to Remain Stable

K-Electric said electricity supply during daytime hours would remain largely stable despite the ongoing fuel supply constraints.

However, consumers may face load management during evening and night-time peak hours if the shortage affects the utility’s ability to meet demand.

The company did not specify the areas that could be affected, the duration of any potential power interruptions or a schedule for possible load management.

International Disruptions Affect RLNG Supplies

According to K-Electric, international supply disruptions and delayed RLNG cargoes have contributed to the nationwide constraint.

RLNG is used in power generation, and disruptions in its availability can affect the amount of electricity generated by gas-dependent power plants.

The situation is affecting generation across the country, the utility said, adding that it was coordinating with Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) and relevant authorities to address the supply constraints.

K-Electric Working to Normalise Supply

K-Electric said it was making every effort to help restore normal supply conditions as early as possible.

The company also apologised to consumers for the inconvenience caused by the situation.
