The Sindh government has taken an important decision to improve the flow of traffic in Karachi and has decided to strictly implement the court decision regarding the entry of heavy vehicles into the city. This decision was made in an important meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Muhammad Sohail Rajput.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon, Secretary Interior Saeed Ahmed Mangrijo, Secretary Transport Abdul Halim Shaikh and DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz and officials of Motorway Police. It was decided in the meeting that a crackdown would be taken against the use of black glass vehicles, sirens, bar lights and illegal number plates.
It was decided in the meeting that the vehicles with fake and fancy number plates should be impounded along with heavy fines. While addressing the meeting, Chief Secretary Sindh directed the Commissioner Karachi to take action against those making illegal fancy number plates by imposing 144 in the city. In the meeting, the Chief Secretary Sindh directed the Deputy Commissioner East to remove all types of parking from the service road of the University Road so that the flow of traffic can be improved.
In the meeting, DIG Traffic said that 15,704 drivers have been arrested for violations so far this year. The fitness certificate of 3421 vehicles has been suspended so far this year. He added that 320 FIRs have also been registered against heavy vehicles. He further said that the amount of challan for violation of traffic rules is more than Sindh in other provinces.
He further said that more than 200 charged parking permits have been issued by various organizations in the city, but no NOCs were consulted with the traffic police while issuing these permits.
Chief Secretary Sindh Dr Muhammad Sohail Rajput said that soon the amount of the fine will also be increased and in this regard, a summary will be sent to the Chief Minister of Sindh. He directed the Commissioner Karachi to hold a meeting with the MC, DMC and Cantonment Board officials of the charged parking permit issuing bodies and find a solution. It was decided in the meeting that the data of the challan issued by the traffic police will also be linked with the driving license which will facilitate taking action against the drivers who violate the traffic rules. A committee consisting of Secretary IT, DIG Traffic, and DIG Driving License was formed.
