Safe City Project cameras to be installed over 3 years

The Safe City Project Karachi organisation opened a command and control room at the police station in Malir City. Jawed Alam, a second-in-command of the police in Karachi.

On Saturday, the Community Policing Karachi organisation opened a command and control room at the police station in Malir City.

Jawed Alam Odho, the additional inspector general of police in Karachi, was present at the ceremony as the chief guest. He was accompanied by SSP Malir Syed Irfan Ali Bahadur and DIG East Muqadas Haider.

The SDPOs and SHOs of District Malir, the deputy commissioner, executive director of Community Policing Karachi Murad Soni, and the Malir SSP investigation were also present. The city police chief was briefed on the project by Soni and the Malir SSP.

64 contemporary CCTV cameras had been installed in the area, and more than 100 more cameras would be installed in the district, according to SSP Bahadur. These cameras would be used in the command and control room to monitor various areas of Malir.

He stated during the ceremony that 80,000 people lived in Malir City when the police station was first built, while 500,000 people now reside there.

He continued that the presence of the Command and Control Room would lessen the burden of crime. There are 200 personnel and four mobile units.

He added that the project would be very helpful because the Malir courts were located inside the boundaries of this police station, which was a sensitive area.

The Karachi police chief claimed that without the assistance of the policing community, this experience would not have been possible. He stated that orders for Safe City had been placed and hoped that the project would begin soon, but it might take three years.

Although a significant financial commitment is necessary, which the government alone can make, this work has already been voluntarily begun under community policing, for which we are grateful, said Odho.

He continued by saying that they would expand this project to include 7,000 additional CCTV cameras throughout Karachi.

The police chief claimed that after a university student was killed by a street criminal two days prior, the case was quickly and completely resolved. A girl who had been affected by the floods in Clifton was molested, and that incident was also quickly resolved.

He said, “The study of the world shows that one camera does the work of many people.”

Police work, according to Odho, is impossible without community support. The Karachi Safe City is a significant initiative to uphold law and order, safeguard crucial infrastructure, and manage street crime and other issues in Karachi.

Murad Soni and his team, who work day and night to serve the people of Karachi, were crucial to the successful completion of this project.

Odho also thanked all philanthropists who provided CCTV cameras for establishing the Command and Control Room at Malir City police station. Soni and his team presented honorary shields to the city police chief, DIG East, SSP Malir and other officers.
