Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer in all of Asia. Breast cancer affects one out of every nine women in Pakistan. Many women are able to get the disease diagnosed and cured early because of years of awareness campaigns.
Pink Ribbon Pakistan CEO Omer Aftab stated this on Sunday while speaking at a fundraising event for the under-construction Pink Ribbon Hospital Lahore, which will be the country’s first health facility dedicated solely to the treatment of breast cancer.
He stated that the construction of the Pink Ribbon Hospital Lahore had been jeopardised due to the Covid-19 situation, but that the building was now 60% complete thanks to donations.
As soon as the first block of the building was finished, the Pink Ribbon purchased diagnostic machines, including a breast ultrasound and a 3D mammogram, he explained. He informed the audience that ultrasound was now available at the OPD, and that the 3D mammogram service would begin in December. He added that the number of walk-in symptomatic patients was increasing by the day and that the Pink Ribbon had provided OPD services to hundreds of women.
Although the hospital is being built in Lahore, the majority of donations for the facility have come from Karachi, according to the Pink Ribbon CEO. He stated that the Pink Ribbon intended to construct a similar health facility in Karachi as well.
