Over 5000 personnel to be present at Sunday’s by-elections: Police

The Sindh police have said that over 5,000 officers would be deployed to ensure peace and order in the city during the by-elections in two constituencies on Sunday.

By-elections would take place in Karachi’s NA-237 Malir and NA-239 Korangi constituencies. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared the seats vacant after NA Speaker Raja Perviaz Ashraf accepted the resignations of 11 PTI MNAs.

According to the Karchi police, around 1,669 officers will be deployed in Malir, while 2,780 officers will be deployed in Korangi. In addition, 103 female police officers will be stationed at polling stations.

They also stated that 554 CIA and CSU employees will be stationed in the constituencies. They also stated that SSPs will be in charge of maintaining law and order at the district level.

Earlier on Friday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced the deployment of armed forces and civil armed forces for security tasks during the October 16 by-elections for NA and provincial assembly seats.

The deployment of military and paramilitary soldiers as a quick reaction force (QRF) for security tasks during the October 16 by-elections in eight NA and three PA constituencies was announced.
