Residents of Media Town Karachi have reported the theft of solar-powered electric poles installed under directives of Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah, raising concerns about law and order in the area.

According to media reports, unknown individuals cut and removed multiple solar poles despite their public utility.

Each pole was equipped with two solar lights aimed at improving visibility and safety in the housing society near Hawkes Bay Karachi.

Residents stated that out of 10 poles installed during 2023-24, at least three have already been stolen. They expressed surprise over how such large infrastructure could be removed without detection.

The affected community, largely consisting of journalists, said that repeated complaints have not resulted in recovery or preventive action.

They noted that the continued thefts highlight gaps in local policing and monitoring systems.

Citizens have urged authorities, including the Sindh home minister and Karachi Police, to take immediate notice of the incidents and improve security measures in the area.

They also demanded stricter surveillance and accountability to prevent further losses of public infrastructure meant for community welfare.

Karachi has seen a rise in small-scale infrastructure thefts in recent years, including cables, streetlights, and solar equipment, often linked to weak enforcement and increasing urban security challenges.
