A total of seventy-two dacoits from the Sindh Kacha area laid down their arms during a Surrender ceremony held in Shikarpur.
The event was chaired by Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, who said the people of the region wanted lasting peace and stability through the restoration of law and order in the Kacha belt.
Lanjar added that President Asif Ali Zardari had given clear instructions to enforce the Sindh surrender policy for Kacha dacoits, aimed at ending decades of crime and insecurity in the region.
Inspector General (IG) Ghulam Nabi Memon said during the ceremony that the kidnapping for ransom cases which once plagued the Kacha region had now significantly decreased following recent security operations.
However, the IG noted that the Kacha area of Ghotki was still not fully cleared, adding that “honey trap” crimes that began in 2012 continue to surface in certain pockets.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Nasir Aftab said that under the new policy, 282 outlaws have so far agreed to surrender, signaling growing confidence in the government’s peace initiative.
“In the first phase of the policy, seventy-two dacoits have surrendered arms today,” DIG Aftab announced, terming it a milestone in the province’s ongoing efforts to restore law and order.
He said the decision would help integrate former outlaws into the national mainstream and allow their families to live without fear or social pressure.
DIG Aftab further revealed that 209 different weapons were surrendered by the bandits, who pledged to abandon violence and cooperate with the authorities for a peaceful future.
Officials said the government’s Kacha peace plan will continue in multiple phases, ensuring rehabilitation, protection, and employment opportunities for those who give up criminal activities.
