The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Sindh spokesperson, Barrister Raja Khaleeq-uz-Zaman Ansari, accused Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab of deploying wardens to stop construction on the Green Line’s second phase.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Ansari stressed that the Green Line Karachi expansion is progressing smoothly. He dismissed suggestions of a 2035 completion, stating the project could finish by June 2026 if uninterrupted.

He clarified the matter should not be politicized and urged Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab to extend cooperation. “Let’s serve the people of Karachi together,” Ansari appealed.

The spokesperson explained that procedural objections must be filed through written notices, not enforced by wardens. He added that disruptions have already caused financial losses to the federal government daily.

Ansari highlighted that the Green Line’s second phase will serve as a shared corridor for all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services, streamlining operations and reducing transport issues across Karachi in future years.

According to him, Rs 5.5 billion has been allocated by the federal government to guarantee the project’s timely completion, reflecting strong commitment toward improved transport infrastructure in Sindh’s largest city.

Ansari recalled that the Green Line is a federal initiative inaugurated by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 2016 and formally handed over to the Sindh government on March 10, 2025.

He underlined that ridership has increased from 52,000 daily passengers to 82,000, showing the project’s growing importance. He warned delays could damage public confidence in critical transport services.

The spokesperson urged the federal, provincial, and municipal authorities to unite for Karachi’s residents. He emphasized that political conflicts should not hinder the delivery of modern, reliable, and safe transport options.Karachi mayor accused of obstructing green line operations
