A new completion deadline has been set for the long-delayed Munawar Chorangi Underpass project in Karachi, as city and provincial leadership push to finish the long-delayed infrastructure scheme.
The update was shared after Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab visited the project site along with CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah and Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on May 3, 2026.

Mayor Karachi on his social media post announced that the Munawar Chorangi underpass is now expected to be completed by June 30, 2026.

Following the visit, the mayor stated that the chief minister had directed authorities to ensure completion within the revised timeline, adding that all necessary funds would be made available.

The Munawar Chorangi Underpass, located in Gulistan-e-Johar, was launched in 2023 with an allocated budget of Rs2.02 billion. The project aims to ease traffic congestion in one of Karachi’s busiest corridors.
Despite initial targets, progress has been slower than expected.

During a high-level meeting on February 24, 2026, chaired by the chief minister to review Karachi’s development projects for the 2025–26 financial year, a one-month completion deadline was set; however, it was not met, and a new deadline has announced by Mayor Murtaza Wahab.
During the same meeting the CM was told that the government has released Rs300 million to support ongoing work at Munawar Chorangi, with construction continuing at an accelerated pace.
