‘Karachi is the economic hub of Pakistan,’ reiterates PM Imran Khan

The Prime Minister Imran Khan held a meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaaf’s (PTI) members of the Sindh Assembly in Karachi. The meeting focussed on discussing the problems and issues faced by the port city.

The PM pointed out that Sindh Government was responsible for resolving the issues faced by the metropolist but in light of public welfare the federal government was also contributing. He acknowledged the numerous water, electricity, waste management and transport issues contaminating the streets of the city and pledged to contribute to their resolution as per available resources. He stated that Karachi was the economic hub of Pakistan and it was a pity that the citizens and their problems had been ignored by all the previous governments.

The PM blamed the previous governments and corruption for the detrimental condition of the city. He highlighted the fiscal deficit inherited by his government but assured that the economic condition has now improved. He stated that the local government had to play a role in resolving these problems. He ordered the federal ministers to increase interaction with lawmakers from Karachi.

Imran Khan assured the Sindh Governor that the K-4 project for Karachi would be completed at all cost.

The PM was also briefed about the ongoing projects in the city being undertaken by the Federal Government.

The meeting was also attended by Sindh Governor Imran Ismael, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Swati, Planning Minister Khusro Bakhtiar, Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Zaidi, Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda, Special Assistant Nadeem Babar and Member of National Assembly Asad Umar.

On his one day visit to the city, the premier also inaugurated a 1,320 megawatt China Hub Power Plant, a part of the Pakistan and China Economic Corridor Plan.
